The Scope

The scope of this ongoing project is to move from 30% design plans from previous efforts for the proposed facility to 100% designs. The City of Baltimore is in the final phase of design for the proposed Eutaw Place/Street Separated Bike Facility following analysis of existing land uses, traffic volumes, assessment of residential parking needs, and other project area criteria. The remaining work on this project includes incorporation of feedback from Maryland Department of Transportation's Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), the Baltimore City Fire Department (BCFD), development of a maintenance-of-traffic (MOT) plan, review of intersection designs, follow-up outreach and engagement with surrounding communities.

Project Status and Funding

While the Eutaw Place/Street Separated Bike Lane project has progressed extensively through the design process, the project itself is not yet shovel-ready. BCDOT is still coordinating with MDOT MTA and other partners on details regarding the project’s scope and design, and will also be hiring a consultant to help advance the project to implementation.

As noted above, BCDOT previously received a $70,000 Maryland Bikeways grant in 2018 to fund continuation of the 30% design to a 65% and then a 90% design phase. This grant was successfully used and the process was officially closed out in 2021. Additional city-provided capital funding for future construction has been allocated and is not at risk of being lost while the city works with surrounding communities and stakeholders to complete this project.

The City will work collaboratively with Central West Baltimore neighbors, peers, businesses, and institutions to achieve a consensus solution that will strengthen bike and pedestrian connections between Druid Hill Park and downtown Baltimore via Eutaw Place/Street, ultimately creating a much needed bridge in the city's bike lane network.
