What is this project about?

DOT is making it safer and easier to walk along Frederick Avenue. We will rebuild sidewalks and ramps that are broken or that do not meet ADA standards. ADA standards provide guidelines so that people with limited mobility, vision, and hearing can be accommodated and are able to use the facilities.

Where is the work taking place?

The work runs along Frederick Avenue. It starts at Brunswick Street on the west end and goes to S Smallwood Street on the east end. This is in City Council District 9.

What will the work entail?

We will build new sidewalks, ramps, and crosswalks on both sides of the road. This street has homes, shops, and bus stops, so safe sidewalks matter to a lot of people.

We will also update the traffic signals. The old signals hang from wires. The new ones will sit on strong metal poles called mast arms.

Other work may include new tree pits and new curb and gutter next to the sidewalk.

Why is the work needed?

Many sidewalks and ramps here are worn out or too old to meet today's rules. Fixing them helps everyone get around safely, no matter how they travel. We want you safe.

We are focusing on the ADA portion for this project and there is a new resurfacing project afterwards that will take a look at all alternatives including bike lanes!

  • Share Please add some curb extensions while you’re doing this work. The lanes are too wide so cars speed. New crosswalks will be nice but won’t slow the cars down. on Facebook Share Please add some curb extensions while you’re doing this work. The lanes are too wide so cars speed. This will be considered in the design plans. Thank you for your comment.
