What is this project about?

Frederick Avenue is one of Baltimore's key gateways, and the Irvington stretch is both a neighborhood destination and a route thousands of people pass through every day. This project builds on earlier community development work along the corridor.

With initial capital funding in hand, DOT will begin designing improvements that repair aging infrastructure, make the street safer and easier to walk, and strengthen the commercial district. That funding covers the design phase, and DOT will pursue additional money, including federal aid, to carry the work through construction.

Where will the project take place?

From Yale Avenue in the west to Monastery Avenue in the east.

What will the improvements be?

This will be a roadway-to-property-line rehabilitation that may include new sidewalks, replacement of adjacent curbs, reconstruction of two traffic signals, addition of two pedestrian crossing beacons, and ensuring ADA compliance.

Road work will include resurfacing and addressing bike lanes and possibly adding bump-outs. Other possibilities include the addition of trees, lighting, median pedestrian refuge areas, and drainage improvements.

This project will balance the needs of an area that is both a place to be and along a gateway corridor that connects Baltimore to the greater region.
