Baltimore City Lake 2 Lake Survey
PLEASE NOTE THE OFFICIAL SURVEY PERIOD IS OVER. YOU MAY STILL RESPOND AND YOU ANSWERS WILL BE REVIEWED, BUT THEY WILL NOT BE REFLECTED IN THE SURVEY REPORT.
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation (BCDOT) was awarded a $50,000 Pandemic Response and Recovery grant to help adapt streets in service of communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. Through the grant from the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) :
- BCDOT is installing traffic calming to make walking and biking to Druid Hill Park and Lake Montebello safer. Roadway improvements will include traffic calming and public art at 33rd Street at Hillen Road as well as along The Big Jump path on Druid Park Lake Drive.
- Bikemore helped get the word out with their free mobile bikeshop pop-ups and will lead a finale event.
- Black People Ride Bikes led fun rides and safety events with the groups which inspired the grant.
- Graham Projects is installing Right-of-Way art which will transform the traffic calming into a more colorful place for community.
The project will increase visibility and access to Druid Hill Park and Lake Montebello which have seen huge increases in usage during the COVID 19 pandemic as people have sought outdoor spaces for safe walking, biking, and exercise. This is a quick build project leveraging existing plans and meant to serve as an intermediate step for longer term improvements.
Please share your thoughts about the project and what you would like to see on Baltimore City streets in the future.
