What is the Park Heights Avenue Rehabilitation Project?

We are upgrading Park Heights Avenue to make walking safer and easier. This road rehabilitation project, which includes repairing and rebuilding worn sections, is in District 5 from Strathmore Avenue to West Rogers Avenue.

What are the objectives of the project?

The main goals are:

• Repave the road and fix the road base underneath
• Rebuild curbs, gutters, and sidewalks
• Upgrade pedestrian ramps so they meet ADA standards, which ensures people who use wheelchairs, walkers, or strollers can get around
• Upgrade the traffic signals
• Add curb extensions and bus bulbs, which are raised curb areas that shorten how far people walk to cross and help drivers and walkers see each other
• Add new high-visibility crosswalks that are easy for drivers to see
• Improve the storm drains so water flows off the street
• Add greenspace and trees
• Refresh the lane markings and signs

What has the community asked for?

People who live and travel here told us they want:

• Slower traffic and calmer streets
• Safer crossings for people walking
• Travel lanes and parking lanes that are the right width
• More trees and greenspace

We designed the project to answer these requests.

Why is the work needed?

Park Heights Avenue is worn down, and some crossings are hard to use. This is a busy street with homes, shops, and bus stops, so a lot of people walk here every day. Fixing the road, sidewalks, and crossings helps everyone get around safely, no matter how they travel. We want you safe.

Will residents and businesses still have access during construction?

We are in the design stage now, and construction is not planned until Fall 2029. No streets or sidewalks will be blocked yet. When construction starts, we will keep a safe path open for people who live and visit here, and we will share details before any work begins.

Will public transportation still run during construction?

Yes. Buses will keep running. The new bus bulbs will make getting on and off the bus safer and faster once they are built. If a stage of work affects a bus stop, we will tell riders ahead of time.
