What is the Central Ave Road Diet Extension project?
The Central Ave Road Diet Extension is a multimodal transportation project that extends the existing infrastructure south to the Waterfront Promenade and Harbor Point, and north to connect with the East-West cycle track along Monument Street. It’s designed to improve access and safety for people biking, walking, and rolling along Central Avenue.
Where will this project take place?
The project is located along Central Avenue in Baltimore’s 12th City Council District and the 46th State Legislative District. It will be built in two main segments:
South: From Fleet Street to Dock Street
North: From Lombard Street to Monument Street
What kind of improvements are being made?
This project will use a Quick-Build approach to add new bike lanes and multimodal elements. These improvements help close critical gaps in the city’s bike network, connecting more residents to destinations like Harbor Point and the Monument Street cycle track.
Why is this project important?
This extension supports Baltimore’s ongoing efforts to build a connected, safe, and convenient transportation network for all users. By linking key destinations with safe bike and pedestrian routes, the project supports Vision Zero goals and makes it easier for residents and visitors to choose sustainable transportation options.
