<div class="jsx-4096002737 layout-wrapper" data-blockid="n-Y87jL9" id="n-Y87jL9"><div class="jsx-2232305058 grid-item-lite"><div class="jsx-1588508986 text-viewer">The Highway to Nowhere is a lasting remnant of past efforts to connect Interstate 70 with Interstates 83 and 95 around Baltimore&rsquo;s Central Business District. However, those highway connections were never completed. Ultimately, the strong community advocacy of the neighborhoods prevailed; but not before the West Baltimore section of Route 40 was constructed, thus earning the local moniker the Highway to Nowhere. Construction of the Highway to Nowhere resulted in the demolition of 971 homes, 62 businesses, subsequently displacing approximately 1,500 residents, many of whom were of African American descent. Roughly 50 years later, the Highway to Nowhere remains as both a physical and symbolic barrier to progress, dividing large swaths of West Baltimore that were once connected. This 1.4-mile long trench serves limited value to the transportation network, is a safety hazard with large grade separations and high speed traffic, and is an eyesore dominating the landscape.</div></div><div class="jsx-2232305058 grid-item-lite"> </div><div class="jsx-2232305058 grid-item-lite">Baltimore City is seeking a federal grant through the Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program to help us advance improvements long overdue in West Baltimore. If successful in winning this grant, the planning study will assess existing conditions, opportunities, and constraints including constructability, multimodal traffic circulation, market demand, and project financing. These are all elements of more advanced planning that goes beyond visioning and ideas collected in previous planning studies. This study will build from that foundation to identify and set in motion the next steps to finally deliver on those promises made.</div><div class="jsx-2232305058 grid-item-lite"> </div><div class="jsx-2232305058 grid-item-lite">The planning study will also establish a robust public engagement process to refine the overall vision and goals and establish performance measures for selecting a preferred concept that can be advanced into design and construction. Reconnecting Communities in West Baltimore

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation is conducting a study of potential improvements to East Patapsco Avenue between Potee Street and 6th Street. The study team will develop concepts to improve transit reliability, manage vehicle speeds, and enhance safety for all users of Patapsco Avenue, including pedestrians, bicyclists, drivers, and transit users.Project Purpose<ul><li>Identify and evaluate curb-to-curb improvements along the East Patapsco Avenue Corridor between Potee Street and 6th Street.</li><li>Develop and test concepts for multi-modal roadway enhancements and traffic calming opportunities to enhance safety and accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists and transit users.</li><li>Incorporate Vision Zero traffic safety improvements.</li><li>Develop 30% design documents to progress the project quickly to more detailed design and construction.</li></ul>Get Involved!Please let us know what improvements you would like to see on East Patapsco Avenue. Patapsco Avenue Multi-Modal Accessibility Study 

The Baltimore City Transit Development Plan (TDP) is a planning process that will develop a five-year transit investment strategy for the Charm City Circulator (CCC) bus and Harbor Connector ferry service. The Plan will identify opportunities where the Charm City Circulator and Harbor Connector services can improve transportation routes and equity within the Charm City Circulator and Harbor Connector service capacity.Why Interesting to the public and what it will accomplishMayor Brandon Scott issued a February 2021 Transition Report that outlines strategies for Building an Inclusive, Equitable Economy. The Transition Report outlines five potential actions related to the BCDOT public transportation program. The TDP is intended to address the transportation recommendations as outlined in Mayor Brandon Scott&rsquo;s Transition Report. The TDP&rsquo;s final deliverables will include strategies and potential route changes to the existing four Charm City Circulator routes and three Harbor Connector routes including:<ul type="square"><li>Recommendations to reconfigure the Circulator Routes</li><li>Identifying CCC service gaps</li><li>Service changes needed to reach employment centers</li><li>Reconfiguration opportunities with institutional shuttle services</li><li>Refocus Harbor Connector to serve job centers and accelerate tourism</li></ul>

The Baltimore City Transit Development Plan (TDP)

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation (BCDOT) was awarded a grant for Pandemic Response and Recovery. The <a href="https://nacto.org/2021/06/17/second-round-of-nacto-recovery-grants/" target="_blank">National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) grant </a>will increase safety for people walking, biking, and traveling in Baltimore City. The grant provides funding and help to cities to adapt streets in service of people impacted by COVID-19.BCDOT&#39;s grant project is title Lake 2 Lake.The Lake 2 project will increase visibility and access to Druid Hill Park and Lake Montebello which have seen huge increases in usage during the COVID 19 pandemic as people have sought outdoor spaces for safe walking, biking, and exercise.The grant also emphasizes partnerships with local stakeholders and community engagement to improve our transportation options. BCDOT community partners for this project include <a href="https://www.bikemore.net/" target="_blank">Bikemore</a>, <a href="https://blackpeopleridebikes.com/" target="_blank">Black People Ride Bikes</a>, and <a href="http://grahamprojects.com/" target="_blank">Graham Projects</a>.Roadway improvements form the grant include:- Traffic calming and public art at 33rd Street at Hillen Road- Maintenance and repairs to The Big Jump path on Druid Park Lake DriveThis is a quick build project leveraging existing plans and meant to serve as an intermediate step for longer term improvements. Lake 2 Lake Grant Project

The York Road Improvement Study focuses on how to advance the York Road Corridor Vision &amp; Action Plan from a transportation perspective. The study investigates two alternatives for the York Road corridor between Northern Parkway and 43rd Street and provides recommendations on traffic and pedestrian safety improvements, transit improvements, and streetscaping opportunities.
