Harford Road Transit Improvements and Cycleway Extension

We’re extending the multimodal pathway on Harford Road south from Erdman Avenue to St. Lo Drive, creating a seamless connection with existing infrastructure around Clifton Park and generating access to the larger network micro mobility network in Baltimore City. This new segment will close a critical gap in Baltimore’s network. Also, as part of this effort, three bus stops along Harford Road will also be upgraded to improve accessibility and service on MTA routes 22,54,&154.

Project Status

This project is currently entering the design phase. Early engagement efforts are underway, and more opportunities to participate will be available in the coming months.

Why This Matters

By enhancing bike and bus infrastructure, this project supports a safer, more connected, and more sustainable transportation network in East Baltimore. It also improves transit reliability and user experience for bus riders along a heavily used corridor.

How Will We Build this Project?

This project will use a variety of materials to make a safe and separated path for users of all ages and abilities to enjoy. The main materials will be concrete precast curbs, known as “pills", and flex post. An image of the pills is shown below. The pills will provide curb like protection at a lower cost and with expedited installation speed compared to poured concrete. The flex post will be used as vertical delineation to help drivers identify the lane and provide reflectivity at night. flex post will also assist snowplows in spotting the facility during winter storms. The bus bulbs will be made out of poured concrete to provide a safe and durable platform for MTA riders.
